Duties & Responsibilities

The DeSoto County Engineering Department is responsible for reviewing and approving construction taking place in the unincorporated county. We work closely with the Planning Department to review planned development including subdivisions, commercial developments, gravel pits, and many other projects. A record of all subdivision construction plans are maintained in our office.

Our duties include working with consultants, municipal, state, and federal agencies on local projects including DeSoto County road improvements, signalization plans, stormwater and erosion control, right-of-way acquisition, surveys, contract administration, etc. Often we advise the general public and other county departments with technical instruction.

The Engineering Department is also responsible for implementing and coordinating the EPA Phase II Stormwater Quality Compliance program.
