The Environmental Services department investigates and processes complaints regarding litter ordinance violations.
The Board of Supervisors has taken many aggressive steps to reduce litter in DeSoto County. in 2015, the Board approved the "Shame on Yall" campaign where nearly one-hundred signs were placed across the county. These signs sought to increase awareness of the littering problem in DeSoto County and contained the monetary fines imposed on those who chose to litter. In April 2017, the Board of Supervisors approved hiring a roadside litter pick-up crew. This is in addition to a litter crew operated by the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department.
