The CDC sent the information in the link below to educate us on the coronavirus.

The DeSoto County Board of Supervisors is working to protect AND serve the public in all matters related to the coronavirus.  They have taken common sense steps by putting additional hand sanitizers in county buildings, by providing personal protective gear for EMS, etc.  They have instructed county departments to educate themselves and identify areas of concern related to the coronavirus.  County Offices have changed some protocols and they are listed on the website under the emergency alert and news flashes as well as on the DeSoto County Government Facebook page.

As of today we know the following:

  • There have been positive cases of coronavirus in DeSoto County.
  • Experts expect cases to surface in the future, based on the CDC map of how the virus has spread in other areas.
  • The #1 prevention for the illness is to STAY HOME IF YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS (fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle/body aches,  or difficulty breathing). The most common symptom is fever.
  • It is our understanding that:
    •  In children the symptoms are usually mild
    • In working age people the symptoms present like flu symptoms
    • In elderly and sick people, the virus is most dangerous and we have to protect those individuals
    • HAND WASHING is the best thing you can do to protect yourself.
    • It is a droplet spread virus like the common cold.
    • The virus can live up to two weeks.
    • Bleach, soap and water and SOME disinfectants will kill the coronavirus.

DeSoto County will continue to monitor the coronavirus situation.  Supervisors plan to continue to serve the people as usual.  We will constantly evaluate conditions and make changes as necessary and recommended to protect the citizens of DeSoto County and those who use our facilities.
